The marae visit

Hi bloggers. Last week on friday we went to a marae. At rest time me and my friend played chess and your going to find out what we did for chess and who won. I hope you enjoy what we did for rest time.

Me and my friend slowly walked to the wharenui to play chess. We were at Takipu marae where there were lots of bugs and grass. It was a boiling hot day at the marae. Year thima and ono were at a sleepover at the marae.

When we were at the wharae kai we sat down and set the board up so we could play. We started playing and I almost straight away I got a pawn out. It was only my first time playing and my friend had been playing for a long time. I was very proud of myself.

When we were halfway through the game, My king was in alot of danger. I was thinking really hard. What was I going to do. I finally made my move and saved my king by just a whisker.I sighed. I was relieved.

Suddenly, Without me noticing my queen was right by his king. I shouted “ Cheek mate.” We set the board back up so we could play again. We made our first moves then we had a pause to talk for a minute. When we moved the players they made a tap tap noise on the board. My king was right in front of his king already.

I made my move, I had won, I shouted. I was feeling more than excited! I had got a victory and it was my first time playing. I explained To my friend I am definitely going to play chess again!
